Why I'm Running

Hi! 

My name is Kirsty Callaghan and I am running for the position of Academic Officer in the 2011 elections of the Union of UEA Students.

I am running in the Union elections because I’ve been involved in the Union and in representing students since my first year at UEA, as:

•  AMS Staff-Student Liaison Committee Rep, 2007-Present
•  AMS School Board Rep, 2007-Present
• Union Council Rep, 2007-Present
• Women’s Campaign Convenor, 2008-09
• Labour Society Publicity Officer, 2008 and Co-founder/Secretary of AMS Soc, 2008
• I found out yesterday that I've been nominated for a Union Award, 'Union Rep of the Year (best representative, any level, overall)'

I studied abroad at the University of Oregon last year and feel that my experience of having studied at a different university has given me some insight into how we might be able to improve (implementing e-submission, for example)

I think I have the experience, the enthusiasm and the ideas to make an effective Academic Officer. I have a proven record of achieving change for students within the School of American Studies, and am passionate about improving the academic experience of UEA students.

All voting is online, begins on Thursday 24^th and finishes at 5pm on Tuesday 29^th March. You will receive an email with your voting link by Thursday and will have access to all candidates’ videos, pictures and manifestos.
